DESTEFANO RESPONDS TO RELL’S CALL FOR EMERGENCY LEGISLATION IN THE ABSENCE OF A FINALIZED BOND PACKAGE
(10/11/2007) NEW HAVEN- Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. expressed gratitude for Governor Rell’s announcement today that urged State legislators to pass emergency legislation to reimburse municipalities for school construction costs incurred throughout the summer months. Should the legislature adopt this request, reimbursements would be drawn from the State’s Common Cash account.
“This seems like a great idea that will benefit our city,” said DeStefano. On behalf of the City of New Haven, I would like to thank Governor Rell for taking initiative on this matter.”
New Haven has incurred significant unexpected expenses as it waits for the legislature to reach a bonding agreement. If an agreement is reached before month’s end, for the three month period of August, September and October 2007 the City would have incurred an additional $256,892 in financing costs.
